The Lehigh Valley’s favorite holiday tradition, Symphony On Ice, is sure to put the whole family in the holiday spirit at PPL Center on Thursday, December 14 at 7 p.m. Showcasing the arts and Lehigh Valley community organizations, Phantoms Charities presents Symphony On Ice will feature the award-winning Allentown Symphony Orchestra and performances by local choirs and members of the Penguin Skating Club.
This year, Phantoms Charities presented by Air Products will be the presenting sponsor of Symphony On Ice and all ticket proceeds will be donated to Phantoms Charities. Phantoms Charities will also be selling a limited number of rink side tables that include a full dinner. The mission of Phantoms Charities is to strengthen the community by developing, instituting and operating charitable and educational programs and services aimed at improving the lives of children and adults in the Lehigh Valley and the surrounding communities, with a special emphasis on youth health, fitness, sports and education.
“On the heels of the success of last year’s Symphony On Ice event, Jim and I are thrilled to once again showcase the arts in the Lehigh Valley community by bringing together the Allentown Symphony Orchestra, local choirs, and figure skating groups for an exciting performance that has become an annual tradition. We believe this is a great way to support the strong Arts community we have here in the Lehigh Valley and we hope that this event can expand the reach and viewership of one of the Valley’s great assets: The Allentown Symphony,” said Rob Brooks, co-owner, BDH Development.
“We’re even more excited to announce that all ticket sales proceeds for Symphony On Ice will be donated to Phantoms Charities in order to continue to strengthen and improve the lives of children and adults in the Lehigh Valley and surrounding communities,” added Jim Brooks, co-owner, BDH Development.
“We are happy to be continuing our partnership with PPL Center, Phantoms Charities, the Bethlehem Penguins and area high schools in bringing to the community a spectacular annual event of Symphony on Ice,” said Sheila Evans, Executive Director of the Allentown Symphony Association. “Who knows what surprises this year’s show has in store!”
Allentown Symphony Orchestra Music Director Diane Wittry is no stranger to innovative performances. Her reputation precedes her with a unique programming style, using video, dancers, subtitles and other visuals that give her concerts a sense of occasion. With passion and finesse, the Allentown Symphony plays time-honored masterworks, newly commissioned world premieres, and unusual and intriguing repertoire, including works by prominent new composers. Each year, the ASO performs more than 20 classical, pops, educational, and family concerts. In 2014, the orchestra received the national American Prize for "orchestral excellence." As it has for the last 65 years, the Allentown Symphony continues its pursuit of excellence with passion, keeping alive the legacy of masterworks while bringing the works of modern masters to the concert stage for the entire community.
Established in 1941, the Penguin Figure Skating Club has been part of the Lehigh Valley for over 75 years and is the second oldest figure skating club in the Pennsylvania. The Club offers programs for skaters in all disciplines (free skating, moves in the field, dance, and synchronized skating) and conducts all club sessions and activities in an atmosphere of good sportsmanship, courtesy and safety. The skaters that make up the Penguin Figure Skating Club have enjoyed a great deal of success with skaters competing at the regional, sectional, and national levels.
